This summer the board of Manitoba Hydro Forest Enhancement Program stopped in Rivers to take a look at the latest tree planting projects they have supported. The projects included trees planted in the school yards and around Riverdale Community Centre. The program is sponsored by Manitoba Hydro’s vice president of the Transmission Business Unit.

It will be 10 years this October since Sam Henry of Oak River district passed away, and four years next month that his wife Doris died, yet their love of the land continues. Nearly 30 years ago they began learning about MWF Habitat Foundation’s Habitat Trust. A non-profit charity which is dedicated to the preservation of habitat; it was established to receive, hold, maintain and manage upland and wetland habitat in perpetuity. Run by volunteers and fundraisers, administrative director Larry Milian explains, “We can’t do everything all at once; we do it when time and money allow.”*

The Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, together with the Symphony Under the Sky Event Committee is very disappointed to announce the cancellation of the scheduled performance at the Selo Ukraina site in Dauphin, Manitoba. A temperamental weather forecast for the weekend made for a difficult decision.

On Aug. 1 the Odd Job Squad hosted a car wash that was very successful. One of the best parts about my job is nurturing young kids into young adults who are ready to join the work force. Rivers is very supportive of this program, and for that, I invite you to give yourself a big pat on the back!
