A time of change

November 11 ceremonies are steeped in tradition but this year’s event in Rivers saw a number of changes. Held for years in Rivers Theatre, the service was moved in the late 1990s to Rivers Collegiate because the theatre was no longer fit for public service. This year, the Remembrance Day ceremony was held in Riverdale Community Centre because the gym floor at the school is nothing but a base of gravel and the stage is undergoing repairs.

Two vehicle accident near Neepawa

One person was rushed to hospital with undetermined injuries on Monday afternoon, after a two-vehicle accident on the edge of Neepawa.

Beautiful brick beds

Last week’s Chamber of Commerce column reminded readers the provincial government provides Hometown Manitoba grants for “main street” development. Rivers Legion Ladies Auxiliary applied for $800 for a project; they received that funding and paid their own $800+ for the job.

CN Hostel refurbished

The E-shaped building located on CN property in Rivers (north of the little stationette) is filled to capacity with train men and women crew who use the facility between train schedules. It is known as the CN hostel, but those who use and work in the buildings refer to is as The Bunkhouse.

Country Christmas coming to Brookdale

On Dec. 10, Christmas is coming early to Brookdale with a special performance by Country Blend. This will be the second year that the band and the Brookdale Elementary School Parent Council have teamed up to present a Christmas concert.
