Blair Ferguson could see the flames and smoke in the distance, when his hotel in Fort McMurray, Alberta was temporarily evacuated on Sunday, May 1. He, along with everyone else, kept a close eye on the path of the fire and the prevailing wind, still optimistic that the worst of it would miss the city. But by Tuesday, May 3, that optimism gave way to the grim reality of just how serious the situation was about to get for him and the community of nearly 80,000 people

Finding the truth about Good Friday

Logic is a systematic process of reasoning. It considers the facts and circumstances of a concept in a straightforward fashion in order to reach the best conclusion. We will  examine the history, evidence and people surrounding the resurrection of Jesus Christ,  just as one would do in a trial, and let this consideration bring us to a logical, reasonable verdict.

Tree stripping

Long strips of trees have recently been destroyed in farmland along the west side of Hwy. 270 south of the CN rail line. Gone is that shield of protection against erosion, the loss of stored moisture and minerals, all for a free run by today’s wide farming equipment. One farmer was asked why so many trees were being cut down; his reply was, “Trees are okay in their place.” Another reply was, “I pay taxes on that property and I can do whatever I want with it.”

Riverdale District Health Auxiliary (RDHA) hosted its annual Florence Nightingale Tea on Saturday, May 7. For the second year in a row, we were treated to a fashion show presented by Super Thrifty Pharmacy. The staff, along with a few community members, modelled an assortment of clothing, jewelry and accessories they carry in that store. Those attending the dessert tea enjoyed the presentation and the 25 per cent off coupon they received from the store. RDHA members really appreciate the girls for their time and effort in making the fashion show an added attraction to our tea. Aeleen Sclater accompanied the models with her harp.
