My perspective - Uncertain times

Usually, I like to write my columns on the weekend. It’s a lot easier to organize my thoughts outside the bustle of the office, but it’s a risky strategy this week. Usually, not much changes between when I write and when we go to print, but I feel confident that won’t be the case this week.

Decision makers have to make decisions. I think the decisions are somewhat misplaced in that limiting and screening arrivals from other countries makes sense, but cancelling Canadian events seems excessive. I could be wrong and have been advised I am.

My perspective - A taxing problem

Last week, the provincial government announced a new tax, a $25 per tonne Green Levy. They also announced some tax relief in the form of a 1 per cent reduction in the PST. Both changes will come into effect July 1 and I’ll be honest, the whole proposal has me confused.
