Twenty-four youngsters and their chaperones (grandparents, parents or older siblings) celebrated Louis Riel Day, Feb. 16, in a novel way by participating in an ice-fishing outing, hosted by Rivers and Area Game and Fish Association on Lake Wahtopanah.

Rivers Jets atom and peewee teams took part in Hockey Manitoba's 100th Anniversary Outdoor Series on Feb. 15. Various communities and minor hockey associations across the province hosted outdoor games that day. In order to participate in the outdoor games, minor hockey teams had to apply and register with Hockey Manitoba in November; once accepted you were given a host location to play in an outdoor game.

At the Manitoba Beef Producers annual general meeting, members voted on resolutions to set the direction of MBP policy for the upcoming year. Resolutions were put forward by members at last fall’s district meetings and on Feb. 5, cattle producers from across the province debated and cast their votes.

While there was optimism thanks to high prices, continued concerns over flooding and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) dominated discussion at the Manitoba Beef Producers annual meeting, held Feb. 5 and 6 in Brandon. Cattle producers from the Neepawa area were well represented, both in terms of attendees and resolutions put forward for debate, and the event drew producers of all ages.
