In the 2011-12 school year at Rivers Collegiate Institute (RCI), parents, teachers and students were privileged to have Jason Paas, who was filling in for a teacher on maternity leave, teach Grades 7-12 band and Grades 7 and 8 English Language Arts. It did not take long for Jason and his son Donovan, who attended RCI, to make new friends — Jason with his amazing gift and passion to teach and Donovan with his down-to-earth outlook on life.

Alumni game raises money for Neepawa Health Centre

The Neepawa Health Centre is the beneficiary of some welcome support from the Neepawa midget girls hockey team. The current team, along with several former players, were able to raise $400.00 for the facility, through an alumni game, held on Dec. 27, at the Yellowhead Arena.

Rivers Polar Plunge exceeds expectations

The Jan. 30 edition of Rivers Banner reported that Rivers Police Chief Bruce Klassen had a goal to raise $500 by Feb. 21. That was the date of the Polar Plunge, a law enforcement initiative to raise money for Special Olympics.

A Neepawa family who attended the Winnipeg Jets/Dallas Stars game on Tuesday, Feb. 25 likely expected the night to be filled with entertaining hockey action; but what they likely didn’t expect that night was to receive an ovation from the crowd and to become internet sensations.
