St. James' Church cookbooks

In June 1965 Gateway Publishing Co. Ltd. was founded by William DesJarlais in Winnipeg. The very first cookbook the company printed was titled Favorite Recipes from Rivers 1965 and it was done for St. James’ Anglican Church afternoon branch of the women’s auxiliary.

School bus safety

The safety record of school buses in North America and the fact that statistically school buses are the safest means of transportation on all roads and highways is no coincidence. There are several reasons for this; one being the high manufacturing standards of school buses and ongoing improvements to them. However, much of the credit for this safety record must go to the people who maintain and drive these buses as well as the people that train, test and evaluate them. Due to the fact that 40 per cent of BPSD’s enrolled students are transported by bus, safety is a very high priority in the division.

Anniversary a reason to recognize charter members

Last week we reported Rivers and Area Lions Club was celebrating its 40th anniversary in conjunction with their hosting of Governor’s Night on Saturday, April 4. Club reports were shared from those in the district (Rivers, Rapid City, Hamiota, Kenton, Oak Lake, Virden), Rivers Legion and Auxiliary were thanked for catering the supper and tending bar, and David Caldwell of Kenton provided entertainment — telling jokes which he interspersed with his vocal solos, accompaning himself on guitar.

Rolling River Festival of the Arts

Another Rolling River Festival of the Arts has come and gone for another year, and it was truly a success. The calibre of talent just keeps improving every year, and without these talented souls, there would be no festival. So thank you to each and every person or group who put themselves out there to compete in our festival. You are what makes it such an amazing event.Listed below are the awards and scholarship winners for the 2015 festival held in Minnedosa March 16-20.
