The Royal Canadian Air Cadets, in partnership with the Air Cadet League of Canada, has been training youth in Canada for 75 years. Throughout its history, No. 9 Neepawa Air Cadet Squadron has attracted youth from Neepawa, Kelwood, Riding Mountain, Erickson, Onanole, Minnedosa, Franklin, Mentmore, Brookdale, Arden, Gladstone, Mountain Road, Birnie, Eden, Wellwood and Edrans.

Looking back at the 2015 season, RMNP operators are ready to thestart the new season. Richard Dupuis, Riding Mountain National Park’s manager of Visitor Experience commented on last year’s season, “We had the busiest [year] in 15 years. We recalibrated the counters at the gates last year and our figures show an increase of 18 per cent in Park attendance. Great weather helped as well. We are constantly improving our events and camping experiences.

First-year medical students enrolled in University of Manitoba’s (U of M) Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, Max Rady College of Medicine are preparing to spread out across rural and northern Manitoba during Rural Week (May 23-27). Rural Week 2016, co-ordinated by Manitoba’s Office of Rural and Northern Health (ORNH), U of M and rural regional health authorities, will provide an excellent opportunity for 110 medical students to gain first-hand experience of how a rural and northern Manitoba medical practice functions. It also doubles by extolling the benefits of working and living in a rural/northern Manitoba area.

RM of Oakview, May 10: Metals are to be hauled out and gravel applied at both waste sites. Eight feet of 24-inch plastic culvert will be donated to Hamiota Kids Club Inc. for playground use. Cleaning up property in Basswood was discussed. An inquiry if council would consider reducing the price of the lots in Oak River subdivision was mentioned; a suggestion was received that a $10,000 rebate be given to owners who buy and build a new home there within two years. A policy is to be drafted for review.
