Gladstone Music and Arts festival
The annual Gladstone Music and Arts Festival, the longest running festival in Manitoba, once again provided young musicians and singers an opportunity to showcase their skills in front of an audience and receive feedback from an accredited adjudicator. Having completing its 87th year, the Gladstone Music and Arts Festival continues to draw performers from the Gladstone, Plumas, MacGregor, Austin, Langruth and Neepawa areas.

Yellowhead board approves arena upgrades

Major upgrades are looming for the Yellowhead Arena. On Monday, May 22, the board of directors for the Yellowhead Centre (YHC) in Neepawa unanimously passed a pair of motions; one for the installation of new arena boards and the second for a new scoreboard clock. The exact cost of the improvements has yet not been released to the public, due to various options available on this work that may affect the pricing.

It’s an exciting time for Neepawa-area 4-H members and this weekend, they’re hoping to share that excitement with the greater community. On Saturday, May 27, members and their parents will be running the matinee showing of Smurfs, giving them an opportunity to promote their organization, as well as support the Roxy Theatre and the Chamber of Commerce’s Neepawa Fair. “We want to give back to our community and support the Chamber of Commerce weekend by volunteering at the Roxy,” said Cheryl Beaumont, one of the leaders.

Horticultural Society passes on love of gardening to children

Members of the Beautiful Plains Horticultural Society (BPHS) were in front of their garden beside the Roxy Theatre on Thurs., May 18 for their annual spring plant sale. About 50 gardeners showed up to purchase plants and Mrs. McPhee’s Grade 1 class, from Hazel M. Kellington (HMK) school, was also on hand to help spruce up the society’s flower patch.
