Looking back - 1967: Neepawa retailers prepare for new revenue tax

 80 years ago. Tuesday May 25, 1937 
Last Friday, Geo. M. Deveson, of Arden, advertised purebred pigs for sale, in the Press. The advertisement was ordered for three issues, but Saturday afternoon he phoned to cancel it as he had received more inquires than could be accommodated. Mr. Deveson was more than satisfied with the result and is now a firm believer in advertising. To sell you must tell, and a special notice in the Press speaks to a vast audience.

United church celebrates 25th anniversary of sanctuary

The congregation of the Neepawa United Church is celebrating 25 years in the sanctuary that was built in 1992. Members of the original building committee are hosting a special service on Sunday, June 11 at the regular 11 am  Sunday worship service.

Neepawa youth job centre opens for the season

Neepawa’s Job Centre opened on Wednesday, May 24 and is located in the Town Office at 275, Hamilton Street. Melissa McFarlane, Youth Engagement Leader said, “Office hours are 8:30 am to 12:15 pm and 1:00 pm to 4: 30 pm, Monday to Friday. Community response has been encouraging. Two businesses have already requested involvement.” Pictured: Marilyn Crewe (left), Town of Neepawa Economic Development Officer, and Melissa McFarlane, Youth Engagement Leader, officially opened the office.

From carnival rides to car shows, it was a busy weekend as the annual Neepawa Fair came to town. Organized by the Neepawa and District Chamber of Commerce from May 26-28, there were a wide variety of activities on offer. “I think it went well,” said Jeff Braun, Chamber president.

The book on my bedside this month is “Simple Wisdom for a Complicated World – Amish Peace” by Suzanne Woods Fisher. It is a series of Amish proverbs, with examples from their daily living. Many of the proverbs are familiar and, still, applicable and teachable. As I read them, they deal in five sections, I reviewed my life.
