When I was quite young, that is in the early 1960s, our school had a number of speakers come in to our school. I don’t remember if the one particular speaker was from the government or perhaps from Alcoholics Anonymous but I do remember the message. The man said, “The only way to avoid becoming an alcoholic is to never take the first drink.” The sheer logic struck me quite clearly. The implication was that if you never start drinking alcohol you can’t become an alcoholic. Fifty years ago, alcoholism was a problem and it’s still a problem today. I won’t air a shopping list of issues but everybody has a list. There are tons of issues and everyone has a different list. Everyone has their preferences and that is a good thing hopefully. Opinions are like noses, everyone has one.

The birth of Jesus was predicted for centuries in the Jewish faith. It also marked the end of the Old Testament, or old covenant, and the beginning of New Testament, or new covenant. Traditionally, the New Testament implores people to accept Jesus as Saviour from their sin. A person who accepts Jesus as Saviour is known as a Christian.
