As political leaders take stands on issues, it opens up an opportunity for columnists to respond. When there is active and civil discussion on issues, we all move forward towards conclusions. Recently, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith and federal Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre have stood up for women and girls with regard to what could be categorized as trans-gender issue. Most media types have been dismissive.

We are constantly bombarded with government “commandments” that make little sense. Actually, they aren’t commandments, but they are strong suggestions backed up with a mixture of propaganda and incentives.

Right in the centre- City of Winnipeg faces big choices

As I put words to paper this Sunday afternoon, I have been informed that the Winnipeg Jets are down in season ticket sales. One of the owners, Mark Chipman, says they have to get the sales back up again. I also hear the NHL commissioner, Gary Bettman, is coming to town reportedly to encourage or scold the team for their lagging sales.

Right in the centre - Publishing is a long needed enterprise

In 2024, it will be 35 years that my wife and I have been in the newspaper publishing business. The Rivers Banner has been going for 108 years. The Neepawa Press for 128 years. The Neepawa Banner for 35 years. I personally produced my first publication 58 years ago.
