The Progressive Conservative Party of Manitoba is about to elect a new leader. Brian Pallister has said he won’t run in the next election. Let it be said in this space that Brian Pallister took a very weakened PC party and made it into two majority governments. He faced down a weak and lazy party establishment and infused some backbone into sitting MLAs and new candidates alike. He ran a fairly good government and even in the COVID-19 crisis, he did as well or better than most provincial leaders across Canada.

Yes, it is really, really hard to not  descend into the profane, to crawl around in the gutter in choosing words to describe where we are as a country right now. With so many good things and so much to be thankful for, why are we ruining ourselves so quickly?

Many Manitobans experience frustration every day with the extremely poor cell service and internet service across rural parts of the province. The rest of Manitoba citizens experience frustration every time they travel through poor cell service areas. It’s tough to travel from any point A to point B without losing cell service.

Right in the centre - Good intentions or actions, it's time to choose

At long last, Manitoba has opened up a lot as we hopefully skid to the end of COVID-19. On Tuesday, Premier Pallister and Dr. Roussin announced the long awaited changes to public health orders. The changes are covered elsewhere in the paper and do represent some long awaited relief for Manitobans’ lifestyle.

Right in the centre - I think I have had enough!

Nearly everyone has had enough of COVID-19, or C-19, as I call it. It has been nearly 18 months and hopefully we are past this horrible experience. With only 11 cases reported in Manitoba on Monday of this week, it would “appear” that we are through this pandemic.

I say “appear” because it could flare up again and I have no doubt there will be another disease that will attack our world. We should have learned that already.
