It’s an ill wind that blows nobody good. While Wednesday evening’s heavy rainstorm pounded down a certain amount of tender garden stuff about town, automobiles standing on the streets during the downpour got a swell cleaning job, and numerous shop windows were brightened up without the aid of elbow grease.

Fishing with fathers and friends

A gloomy, windy, chilly Father’s Day did little to dampen the enthusiasm of 91 fishers, 21 youth (15 years and under) and 70 adults on Sunday, June 18. The event was the fourth annual summer fishing derby hosted by Rivers & Area Game & Fish Association on Lake Wahtopanah. A total of 135 fish, comprised of 69 walleye, 38 northern pike, 10 perch and 18 rock bass, were caught, measured on the water, and released.

Details for Rivers Fair nearly finalized

Rivers Ag Society met on June 7 to continue finalizing plans for the upcoming fair on Wednesday, July 5. It will be an exciting event and is approaching fast! New this year will be pulled pork on a bun, with coleslaw, chips and pop as an evening meal on Tuesday, July 4 at the MGRA horse show. This will be served from 4:30-8:30 p.m. and is not to be confused with the annual beef barbecue supper at Riverdale Community Centre from 4:30-7 p.m. on July 5.
