Neepawa Banner & Press

The Beautiful Plains Museum is located in Neepawa at 91 Hamilton St., in the old CN Railway Station. We open on Victoria Day and will be open from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. For the rest of May and June, we are open from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm Monday through Friday and starting in July, we will also be open from 9:00 am- 5:00 pm Saturdays and 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Sunday and statutory holidays.

If you have never been inside the museum you may be quite surprised as to how much it has to offer! There are three levels containing different displays that can give you a sense of what Neepawa and the surrounding area was like many years ago. Displays include a general store, the log cabin room, a military room, a fashion room and more. There is something in here to fit everyone’s tastes.

This year we are putting up a new display on the main floor called “Catalogue Shopping”. The Eaton’s and Sears catalogues were once used as a main source for people to buy just about anything, from clothing, to furniture, to even a house! The first Sears catalogue was printed in 1888. The first Eaton’s catalogue was published in 1884 and their last publication was in 1976. In our display here we have many replicas of Eaton’s and old Sears catalogues as well as a few originals. We have a few examples here in the display of what people would have ordered from the catalogue as well as what it would’ve cost. In the 1927 Eaton’s catalogue you can find a diamond ring for as little as $10! These catalogues are interesting to go through as they really give you an idea of what the fashion trends were and what life was like during the time of the publication.

I hope you come out to the museum this summer to take a look at all we have to offer. You will not be disappointed!
