Rivers Police Service (RPS) had 47 calls during December which were categorized in the following manner. Five Criminal Code violations: two assaults, two frauds and one other crime such as a breach, public mischief, harassing phone call, etc. In the year, there were 69 Criminal Code cases: one sexual offence, one abduction/forcible confinement, five assaults, two break and enters, one theft of a motor vehicle, 178 thefts under $5,000, eight property damages, one offensive weapon, four frauds, two drug cases and 27 others.
December also had five traffic files in the form of four accidents and one other Highway Traffic Act infraction, which could include speeding, driving an unregistered vehicle or without a licence, etc. The year-end total shows five impaired driving charges, one driving without due care/attention, one suspended driving, 17 accidents, one off-road vehicle and 50 others.
There were no charges laid last month under the Liquor and Gaming Control Act but during the course of 2017, there were two charges for possession of liquor in an unauthorized manner. RPS made two charges under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act, bringing the year-end total in this category to nine offences.
RPS enforces four bylaws and in December, both the animal and traffic bylaws were enacted. Throughout the year, the animal control bylaw was used 33 times, the burning bylaw once and the traffic bylaw five times; the nuisance bylaw had no violations.
Members once again provided much assistance to others last month; more than one third of our calls fell into this category. We assisted the public and other agencies five times each, we completed six criminal records checks and we helped RCMP in the former RM of Daly area once. In total we have assisted the public 32 times, other agencies 39 times, RCMP 39 times and done 126 criminal records checks.
In the miscellaneous section there were 16 files opened; two in mental health, five 911 calls, one community relation, three noisy parties/disturbances, three Child and Family Services (CFS) and two other miscellaneous, which includes unfounded complaints. During 2017 members dealt with eight mental health calls, 11 calls to 911, 22 community relations, four missing persons (all located), 15 alarms, 28 noisy parties, five CFS, two lost properties, one insecure premise, six found properties, one sudden death, two sex offender registrations, one firearm turned in and 82 miscellaneous.
