RCMP are investigating a third shooting in Portage la Prairie in just six days.

On Dec. 7, at approximately 4:35 am, Portage RCMP received a report of several shots fired in the area of Oak Bay in Portage la Prairie. Officers arrived on scene to find the residence had been shot at and received damage. Nobody inside the residence was injured.

“RCMP have responded to three shootings in Portage over the last six days,” said S/Sgt Rob Vachon, Portage la Prairie RCMP Detachment Commander. “What we need the public to know is that these are not random events and the RCMP has increased resources in the area to patrol as well as to assist with the ongoing investigations.”

S/Sgt Rob Vachon and Portage la Prairie Mayor Irvine Ferris will be available to the media to answer questions on December 8, 2017, at 1:00 pm at the Portage la Prairie RCMP Detachment.

Mateo Roulette has been arrested by Portage RCMP. He was wanted for Aggravated Assault in relation to Saturday's shooting in Portage la Prairie. Thank you to the media & public for your assistance.

Update: Tuesday, Dec. 5. 12:19 p.m. 

The Portage la Prairie RCMP have located and arrested Gary Joseph McIvor. McIvor is now in police custody, facing three counts of attempted murder, related to the incident on Saturday, Dec. 2. Officers are still looking for 19-year-old Mateo Roulette. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Mateo Roulette is asked to contact the Portage la Prairie RCMP at 204-857-4445, submit a secure tip online at www.manitobacrimestoppers.com or text "TIPMAN" plus your message to CRIMES (274637).

Portage la Prairie RCMP are investigating a pair of separate shootings. In the first incident, Police were alerted on Saturday, Dec. 2, at approximately 5:00 a.m., when officers responded to a report of a shooting at a residence on Royal Road North. Three people were injured during the incident and have been hospitalized, one was listed in critical condition. In the most recent update, released by Portage RCMP on Wednesday, Dec. 5, two of the victims are now listed in stable condition, while the third has been released from hospital.

During the first 24 hours of the investigation, Portage RCMP released a second update to the public, indicating that charges had been laid in the shooting. Police also asked for the public’s assistance in locating two suspects now wanted in connection with the incident.

18-year-old Gary Joseph McIvor, also known as Gary Roulette, from Brandon, has been charged with three counts of attempted murder. Meanwhile, 19-year-old Mateo Roulette, from Portage la Prairie, has been charged with three counts of aggravated assault.

Second separate shooting

On Tuesday, Dec. 5, at approximately 4:40 am, Portage la Prairie RCMP were dispatched to a report of a male who was shot outside a residence at Poplar Bay in Portage’s north end. When officers arrived on scene, the injured 26-year-old male from Portage had been transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. At this time, the incident does not appear to be random. 

The RCMP Police Dog Services and the Major Crime Unit were assisting Portage RCMP with the ongoing investigation. There is no public safety issue in relation to this incident.
