Regular legion meetings resumed on Sept. 12 after a summer break. Two new members, Tammy Slator and Shawn Williams, were initiated at the beginning of the meeting. Two new officers were installed; comrade Glenna Beauchamp resigned as branch chaplain during the summer and Warren Smallwood took her place.  This left the sergeant-at-arms position open, which was filled by Dave Cluney. It was significant that comrade Smallwood received the red sash from comrade Bert Cluney which has now been passed to his son.

During the summer Joey Katcher was hired as the new caretaker for the hall.

Zenith Paving will be completing repairs on the parking lot shortly, at a cost of approximately $13,000. The cribbage group which plays every Thursday night in the upper hall has donated $500 toward the project. We thank you and may your life include a 29.

Contrary to popular belief, the legion can change. Starting with the next Decoration Day (June 2018), flags will be placed on veterans’ graves instead of styrofoam crosses. The motion passed without so much as a “but it’s always been” even whispered.

All retired and serving members of the military are invited to the legion during Legion Week, Sept. 18-23. Lots of free things are available. We will also host a luncheon on Wednesday, Sept. 20; please see our ad in this paper for more details.
