Prairie Mountain Health (PMH) congratulates four paramedics from the region who were recently recognized with the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Exemplary Service Medal that was presented by the lieutenant-governor of Manitoba, Janice FIlmon. The medal, created in July 1994, recognizes professionals in the provision of pre-hospital emergency medical services to the public, who have performed their duties in an exemplary manner — characterized by good conduct, industry and efficiency.

Two of the four will be known to Rivers Banner readers; one is Rivers’ own Jim Duthie while the other is Campbell Funeral Home owner/director, Dwayne Campbell of Hamiota.

Paramedic Association of Manitoba administrative director Eric Glass says award recipients must have been employed with EMS and have completed 20 years of exemplary service, including at least 10 years in the performance of duties involving potential risk. A bar with a stylized maple leaf may be awarded to a recipient of the medal for each additional 10-year period of service with EMS.

This year’s recipients were recognized at the Manitoba EMS award gala held at Victoria Inn and Convention Centre in Winnipeg on Saturday, Oct. 23. Manitoba’s lieutenant-governor, the Honourable Janice Filmon, was in attendance to present the EMS Exemplary Service medals and bars.
