Family and friends gathered at St. Matthew’s Cathedral in Brandon the evening of Friday, Oct. 28 to witness the ordination of Rev. Sally Carter to priesthood of the Anglican Church of Canada. A crucifer (person who carries a cross) led lay readers, deacons, clergy, canons and archdeacons up the aisle, followed by Rev. Sally, her presenters and Bishop William. When no less than 12 robed individuals were assembled at the front of the church, they made an impressive visual for the audience.
Scripture was read by Sally’s mother (Heather Wren) and Les Wood. Rev. Cheryl Kukurudz read the gospel. Following a sermon given by Rt. Rev. William Cliff, Rev. Sally was presented by Rev. Richard Wren (her father, who left his home in England for this auspicious occasion
), the Venerable Paul Curtis and Noreen Stone. Sally’s daughter Charlotte Castle sang Who May Abide the Day of His Coming (from The Messiah) during eucharist; she was accompanied by Jennifer Nichols. A reception was held in the parish hall following the service.
Sally and family moved to Canada in 2003; they joined St. James’ congregation that year. She became a lay reader in 2008 and was ordained as a deacon on June 28, 2015. A large number of her church family from Rivers attended the ordination ceremony.
