80 years ago, Friday Oct 9, 1936
There is more joy in a printing office over one sinner that pays in advance and abuses the editor on every possible occasion then there is over 90 and nine who borrow the paper and sing its praises without contributing one cent to keep it out of the poor house.
70 years ago, Thursday Oct 10, 1946
Dr. J.S. Poole has been confined to his home with a broken shoulder. The doctor had the misfortune to fall on the cement floor in the operating room in the Neepawa General Hospital.
60 years ago, Thursday Oct. 11, 1956
Fire of unknown origin destroyed the recently erected house in the Edrans brickyard at about 6 am Sunday. The house was occupied by the foreman of the yard, his wife and young son. The parents were awakened by the youngster’s cries and managed to flee the house, taking only a small amount of clothing as they ran from the burning building.
50 years ago, Tuesday Oct. 11, 1966
Alguire Bros. Wholesale Ltd. has changed hands after 46 years of operation under the family name.
Howard Alguire, who has owned and operated the family business since 1955, announced recently that the business has been sold to Rogers and Son Ltd. with headquarters in Dauphin. Manager of the Neepawa branch will be Mr. Claire Cook, now of Portage.
Alguire Bros. Wholesale began operations in 1920 when it was started be Oliver and Frederick Alguire. Since then it has been in continuous operation, in various offices in Neepawa.
Howard Alguire has been a partner in the business since 1947, and bought out his father in 1955 to take over the firm. He plans to continue in business here, operating Salt City Camper Sales.
40 years ago, Thursday Oct. 14, 1976
Wednesday, October 6, saw the formation of a new service club for the town of Neepawa – the Neepawa Kinsmen Club.
Approximately 25 members, between the ages of 20-40 attended an organizational meeting held at the Vivian Hotel to elect a temporary executive consisting of president Wayne Hollier, secretary Harvey Ebner and treasurer Randy Dudar, they will be responsible for the nomination of a permanent executive and the details of the organization of the club. Interest expressed by other Neepawa residents indicates a possible membership of 35.
30 years ago, Thursday Oct. 9, 1986
A meeting held last week in Neepawa has made it clear four-lane travel on Highway 16 through town is here to stay.
The meeting took place with three of Neepawa’s councilors, the town’s superintendent, Sargeant Dave Miller of the Neepawa RCMP detachment, members of Beautiful Plains School Division and Carl Wiebe of the Minnedosa Highway’s Office.
The Sept. 18 issue of The Neepawa Press reported problems have been encountered since Highway 16 was paved and painted for four-lane travel.
20 years ago, Monday Oct. 8, 1996
The site of the Masonic Lodge being wheeled out of town last Tuesday probably left more than a couple people gasping such a thing was possible.
The lodge, constructed for $10,000 in 1925, was hoisted off its basement before a mover from Portage La Prairie took the building on its slow trek to Stonewall.
The building was moved to stonewall after the local Masonic Lodge disbanded earlier this year.

Old age security pension benefits increased to $491.93 a month effective Oct. 1.
The Guaranteed Implement Supplement for a single person rose to $602.91, the same amount as spouse or common-law partner of a non-pensioner receives.
For a pensioner, the GIS increased to $395.54, the same as for an Allowance recipient.
The regular Allowance increases to $887.47, for survivors, its $981.81.
