Deep fried ice cream

Would anyone care for a deep fried ice cream cone? It’s available at CJ’s Snack Shack, located in Rivers Provincial Park. Other tempting edibles will be offered during the official opening of the shack and its mini golf course (see ad for more details). Park entry fees remain in effect; camp visitors will be welcomed by Pat Dyck and Kathy Gross at the registration building.

CJ's is a new name for the once-called Pop-In Food Stand and the new operators are Lorne and Sue Green of Rivers. They chose the new name in honour of their deceased grandson, Clayton James, son of Derek and Nicole Green. Clayton was a healthy 13-month-old when he was stricken with Sudden Unexplained Death Syndrome. Donations to aid the study of this condition will be accepted on the Aug. 13 grand opening.

There is lots of room to run, climb the spider tree and enjoy a free game of miniature golf, not to mention homemade fries and perogies on that day. Lorne, Sue and their border collie friend Charlie spent the past winter in Arizona, residing in their “home on wheels” (motorhome). They succeed Mike and Beth Robleski, who had operated the concession/mini golf since 2003. The business was started in 1997 by Johnny and Phyllis Wolfe. Both previous owner couples lived in Brandon, so it is nice to have an owner couple who live in Rivers during the camping season.
