Sylvia Maloney on the run

Sylvia sure can run, and while pushing a grocery cart too! That’s Sylvia Maloney of Rivers, who won the grand prize in The Grocery People (TGP) $600,000 Fresh Giveaway contest. The six-week promotion began April 30 at all TGP stores (Bigway Foods and Super A Foods) and included weekly $25 gift cards and a 50-second shopping spree.

From an alert start at noon on Thursday, June 30, Sylvia was on her way around the aisles in a rush to fill her cart. The spree ended on time at Chelsey Brown’s till where the food was checked out at $316.25. She was so excited she uttered, “I’m going to always shop here!”

According to store owner Kelly Davidson, “We cleared the store, then held back the remaining customers. Chelsey and I followed her around as she tore through the store! She started with coffee, broke for meat and ended up just able to grab some big blocks of cheese as I counted her down from 10. I was giving her updates on time as she went, but not many as I didn't want to fluster her, and it went by so quickly! Sylvia was able to grab meat, coffee, seafood and dairy, all at an incredible speed!”

Winners of the gift cards were all Rivers people: Garry Radford, Michelle McFadden, Phyllis Jordens, Rosemary Moncrief, Bonnie Heudebourck and Jennifer Braun. This is not the first shopping spree at Rivers’ Hwy. 25 grocery store, but it is the first one Kelly has co-ordinated since he and wife Cheryl became owners in October 2010. TGP is now offering at all stores a summer promotion of a three-piece cooler set, lawn games and food; winner of this prize will be drawn on July 29.
