Rural Week comes to Neepawa

From May 23 to 27, Neepawa played host to three first-year medical students, from the University of Manitoba, as part of this year’s Rural Week.

Rural Week 2016, coordinated by Manitoba’s Office of Rural and Northern Health (ORNH), the University and rural regional health authorities, provided an excellent opportunity for 110 medical students to gain first-hand experience of how a rural and northern Manitoba medical practice functions. It also doubles by extolling the benefits of working and living in a rural/northern Manitoba area.

PMH Director of Medical Services Administration, Michelle McKay, says the event is a ‘win-win’ all the way around.

Prairie Mountain Health hosted 35 medical students, who were assigned to 13 communities within the health region. In addition to Neepawa, other PMH communities were Boissevain/Deloraine, Brandon, Dauphin, Hamiota, Rivers, Russell, Souris, Ste. Rose, Swan River, Treherne and Virden.
