Rivers Police Chief

The month of May saw a total of 40 calls for service by Rivers Police Service, including the theft of groceries from Rivers Bigway Foods on Sunday, May 29. We also kicked off our annual Use Your Head campaign and we participated in a mock accident at Rivers Collegiate. The rest of our calls fell into the following categories.

One property crime of theft under $5,000 and two various other Criminal Code crimes such as breaches, public mischief, harassing phone calls, etc; year-to-date Criminal Code violations (18 categories) are 42 cases. 

Traffic charges amounted to two, both of which fell into the other category, which can include speeding, an unregistered vehicle, driving without a licence, etc.; year-to-date federal and provincial traffic statistics (nine categories) are 63 cases. 

Police were not called upon to enforce any bylaws last month, nor were we needed for liquor laws but we did deal with one intoxicated person/breach of peace. Year-to-date totals for these three divisions, which total eight categories, amount to 27 cases. 

Rivers Police Service was a helpful crew in May with five calls of assistance for RCMP in the former RM of Daly, six acts to help other agencies and one public assistance; we have provided assistance 73 different times since January of this year.

This miscellaneous division has 16 categories and is by far, our busiest section; more than half the class fell into this division. Of the 22 cases logged in May in this section, two were for mental health, one 911 call, four community relations, one missing person (located); one alarm, three noisy parties/disturbances, one insecure premise, one found property and eight miscellaneous files, which includes unfounded complaints. The year-to-date total of this division is 139 cases.
