Supper lacks support

Forty-five people attended the Legion Branch No. 75 (Rivers) barbecue supper held in the downstairs clubroom on Sunday, May 15. Organizer Cheri Clark, clubroom manager Kathy Davis and staff expected a larger crowd.

Beef burgers were cooked on the east side of the hall, which served as protection from a strong westerly wind. Troy Nielsen was chef while branch president Garry Nielsen was road runner, carrying cooked burgers into the clubroom where they were served by Dave Allen and Don McCracken. The rest of the meal included salads, brown beans, buns, pickles and dessert. In addition to food, those who came for supper were treated to live music by Jeff Worth who sang songs to his own guitar accompaniment.

A portion of supper revenue was intended to assist with the cost of new siding on the north side of Rivers Legion Hall. This project follows the recent expenditure of re-roofing the entire building. Since clubroom drink and food sales have diminished, suppers are a means of raising money.

Plans are underway for the annual Legion-sponsored golf tournament on June 15. Supper will be included in the entry fee but non-golfers may also attend the meal by pre-paid admission.
