Riverdale District Health Auxiliary (RDHA) hosted its annual Florence Nightingale Tea on Saturday, May 7. For the second year in a row, we were treated to a fashion show presented by Super Thrifty Pharmacy. The staff, along with a few community members, modelled an assortment of clothing, jewelry and accessories they carry in that store. Those attending the dessert tea enjoyed the presentation and the 25 per cent off coupon they received from the store. RDHA members really appreciate the girls for their time and effort in making the fashion show an added attraction to our tea. Aeleen Sclater accompanied the models with her harp.
Auxiliary president Lynn Madden welcomed everyone and introduced Ken Waddell, publisher of Rivers Banner, who in turn took the opportunity to present Jessie Bell, the first president of our local hospital auxiliary, a Silver Quill award. He also presented Sheila Runions, long time Rivers Banner staff, a Silver Quill award. Following these awards, Lynn invited Dr. Heather Nowasad to officially open our tea; Rev. Glenna Beauchamp gave the blessing.
An assortment of baked goods were available for purchase and raffle tickets for a cash draw, grocery hampers and a metal fire pit were sold. Winners of the cash were Barb Sveistrup, $50, Gavin Pomeroy, $40 and Samantha Dyck $25. Five grocery baskets were won by Chris Waddell, Ivy Heapy, Sharon Herndon, Donna Morken and Ann Lines. The fire pit was won by Marilyn Dickson.
Three organizations had display tables at our tea and each of these also offered a free prize. Rivers and Area Palliative Care program offered a hanging basket which was won by Valerie Panchuk of Brandon. Riverdale Health Services District Foundation supplied a "Lug" wallet, won by Sharon Herndon. Rivers/Rapid City Senior Services’ display featured a planted teapot which was won by Frances Young.
RDHA appreciates everyone for their continued support in our fundraising efforts which help provide for the needs of patients in our health care facility. Because our membership is not as large as it once was, it takes the dedication of all our existing members to work together to host this event, and the donations of baking, grocery items, desserts and ticket sales are all valued greatly. We are extremely grateful to several hospital staff for helping us out with donations of desserts. Anyone wishing to join our auxiliary is welcome!
