Arden Crocus Festival

A record number of photo entries will be on display for the 2016 Wild Crocus Photo Contest gallery this Saturday, May 7, at the community hall in Arden, Manitoba. 

Amateur photographers put in 185 entries for the event, with photos taken across southern Manitoba from the Whiteshell to Russell, says event organizer John Dietz. The contest is co-sponsored by the Arden area heritage tourism committee, by Photo Central in Winnipeg and by businesses in the Gladstone – Neepawa area. 

Large prints of nearly all the entries will be on display this Saturday during the annual Arden Crocus Festival. The festival has a variety of family-oriented activities. Admission is free for the activities and for the Crocus Photo Gallery. 

The public gets a chance to vote in the hall for their favorite photo for the two photo sections, adult and youth. Winners will be announced and prizes will be awarded after supper. 

Youth entries increased to 48 photos from 14 young photographers. 

Adult entries increased to 137 photos from 41 photographers. 

Locations where the wild prairie crocus was found and photographed included: Arden, Ashville, Basswood, Carberry, Gladstone, Jackson Lake, Little Mountain Park MacGregor, Minnedosa River valley, Narcisse, Neepawa, Rivers, Rosser, Russell, Springfield Road, Spruce Woods, Stony Mountain, Whitemouth River and Woodside.
