Since the annual general meeting that NACTV held back in October, the board has been putting a lot of focus on fundraising. The annual Showcase of Talent is their biggest fundraiser each year, and this time especially, they need it to pay off.

This year, NACTV has needed to include in their budget the move to their new location and the cost of replacing some of their equipment. These extra expenses have meant that they are relying more heavily upon donations to keep up and running. Ivan Traill, president and CEO of NACTV, said that the showcase usually raises between $8,000 and $10,000 and that this year, they’re hoping to get upwards of $10,000 to help with the additional costs they’ve incurred.

The Showcase of Talent is set for Thursday, Feb. 11 at the Roxy Theatre in Neepawa. It will be aired live on the NACTV channel from 7-10 pm. The showcase features talent from Neepawa and surrounding areas that have signed up to be in the program. NACTV is still looking for performers to take part in the event. Traill said that quite often, performers wait to be asked or until the last minute before registering for the night. He stressed that the station doesn’t necessarily know about all the talent that is out there, so people shouldn’t hesitate to come forward, even if they haven’t been asked or have never participated before.

Performers can collect pledges from people before the night of the showcase and phone lines will be open on the night itself for those wanting to make donations to phone in pledges. The names of the donors will be listed on the screen during the event as a thank-you for their support.

Traill said that the station also does a campaign to ask businesses for support before the showcase. He said that the local businesses have been really good and NACTV is very appreciative of their support.

If anyone is interested in helping out, whether it be as a performer, judge, stage hand, runner or camera operator, they are encouraged to call Jean Borchardt, Secretary-Treasurer, at 204-476-2734 or contact the NACTV office at 204-476-2639. Anyone interested in performing at the showcase can visit the NACTV office, which is located in the former Neepawa Press building at 423 Mountain Avenue, to pick up a registration form and a pledge sheet.

The community is encouraged to come to the Roxy to cheer on the local talent and show their support for our local television station.
