For years longer than anyone can remember, the first Wednesday of November is National 4-H Day, which in Manitoba, has morphed into 4-H month. As such members and leaders from Alexander, Poplar Hill and Roseland-South Brandon 4-H clubs met with Manitoba’s minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Development to support his efforts at proclaiming November 4-H Month.

Manitoba 4-H Council’s executive director Clayton Robins (who farms five miles southeast of Rivers) says the people in the picture, “Were asked to attend as they are very active in having both leaders and members participate in 4-H activities, events and opportunities beyond their club level.”

The 4-H movement in Manitoba has a membership of 2,200 youth who are led by nearly 1,000 adults in 160 different clubs. Within Rivers Banner coverage area there are seven clubs: Alexander 4-H Club, Forrest 4-H, Kenton Kraftsmen, Rapid City Beef Club, Rapid City Chutes ‘N’ Boots Rodeo Club, Rivers and District Beef Club and Rivers Multi-purpose Club.

Nov. 4 (National 4-H Day) is often promoted as “Show Your Colours Day” when members/leaders and those who support 4-H are encouraged to wear green.
