Council Clips
Riverdale Municipality, May 19: Jeanette Hudon attended the meeting with Donna Morken to discuss a marketing strategy put together by Brandon University students for the Wetland Centre of Excellence. Council will allow Westman Communications, on behalf of Springland Mfg., to install an antenna on the arena with condition that engineered plans be submitted for approval and that Springland cover all costs associated with installation, equipment, future upgrades or maintenance; Springland will also be responsible for a portion of hydro, negotiated by agreement prior to commencement of the work.
Council signed a Notice of Work to allow CN to begin work on the proposed installation of a second track and bridge (Range Road 115 West) near Rivers (CN mile 135.90 Rivers subdivision). The former Town of Rivers and RM of Daly have forwarded concerns to CN regarding the constant and over-excessive blockages on Hwy. 25 and Taylor Road crossings; blockages have only increased in the last 10 years; blockages have become a serious safety concern in that motorists are taking unnecessary risk by driving at excessive speeds to avoid having to wait for trains; fire personnel are not able to make fire calls, lowering our numbers for responding members and putting them at risk; fire calls on the west side are at risk for a long response time; residents on the west side are at risk if the ambulance cannot make it in a satisfactory time; therefore, council requested that the Hwy. 25 crossing (CN mile 144.60 Rivers sub) be considered a critical crossing and that steps be taken to ensure safety concerns are addressed and adhered to.
Finance: Chief Bruce Klassen presented his proposal to purchase a new police vehicle as per the four-year rotation; said purchase has been included in the 2015 budget; council approved the purchase of a 2015 Ford Sedan Police Inceptor All-Wheel Drive including light bar and cage for $37,490; $37,000 was funded by the Police Equipment Reserve as per the 2015 budget. Rivers Police Service requires a desktop cardscan to submit electronic fingerprinting; the scanner has been included in the 2015 budget; council approved the purchase of Cardscan, including training and installation, for $22,770. Accounts of $356,536.66 and utility of $23,689.14 were passed for payment. Council transfered $102,277.00 from the Fire Equipment Reserve Fund to the Recreation and Youth Development Reserve Fund.
