To all snowmobilers riding the designated trail system:

Clubs are compensated for grooming trails from funds generated through the sale of snopasses. Funds are provided to clubs based on the number of kilometres groomed and the size of the drag used. Funds available are dependent on the number of snopasses sold; therefore, clubs are limited to the number of kilometres they are allowed to groom.

For the 2014-15 season each club is permitted to groom 12 times its grooming distance. (Grooming distance is the kilometres required to groom a club’s trail system once.) Therefore, each club is entitled to groom their trail system 12 times during the season. 

As clubs have limited grooming kilometres available, they must manage this resource to the best of their ability. It is hoped that clubs will be able to groom part or all of their trail system once a week. This may mean trails may not be opened until there is ample snow or groomed right after a snow fall or after strong winds, or as often as one thinks they should be groomed. 

Snoman (the provincial snowmobilers association) asks that snowmobilers allow for trails to set up after being groomed. Set up times vary from two to six hours, depending on the temperature and moisture content of the snow. To optimize the longevity of trail grooming and add to everyone’s riding pleasure, it is best to allow ample time for setup. Also understand that aggressive riding styles can impact the quality and smoothness of the trails. 

Snowmobilers, please be patient with the clubs; they are volunteers with limited resources and they do their best to provide well groomed and safe trails. Please join a club and make a difference!
