LUD of Oak River, Dec. 1: A public hearing for the borrowing bylaw for the utility has been scheduled for the new year so it is not in transition between RM of Blanshard and RM of Oakview.
The new Christmas lighting decoration has been completed and some material to make additional decorations is available. A Christmas appreciation supper will be held Dec. 14. Tax deductible receipts will be issued for people who purchase a light in memory of their loved one. Memory
lighting/wiener roast/sleigh ride will be held Dec. 12. The current casual employee has resigned from the position. A concern regarding inconsistent pressure at the carwash will be brought to the attention of the town foreman. Snow clearing of streets in Oak River was discussed. The next meeting is Jan. 5 at 7:30 p.m.
RM of Blanshard, Dec. 2: The Transitional Committee for RM of Oakview has requested Blanshard sign the profession services agreement; Blanshard authorized the signing with the understanding that costs incurred will be set up as a prepaid expense of Oakview. Necessary computer hardware to assist in the smooth amalgamation, as per recommendations received from the Transitional Committee, will be purchased. A disaster financial assistance application will go in shortly; a request for additional advanced funds has been made. Council agreed to donate trophies to the atom Tournament of Champions in Oak River.
Finances: Jean Fortune will be paid a gratuity of $30 per meeting and mileage for every Park Residence board meeting attended. Roy Greer will be paid an hourly wage and mileage for Rolling Dale Enterprises meetings attended on behalf of council. Grants were paid to: Oak River Cemetery, $1,736.22; White Bank Lea Cemetery, $689.97; Marney Cemetery, $1,188.57; Miller Cemetery, $218.90; Rivers Mennonite Cemetery, $1,603.08; Pettapiece Cemetery, $978.70. School levies were paid to Public Schools Finance Board, $3,719.97; Parkwest, $910.57; Rolling River, $7,678. Blanshard CDC was paid $2,100 to support the conservation district office in Oak River. Council paid a $150 membership into Agriculture in the Classroom. Accounts of $71,384.98 and unpaid invoices of $90,470.74 were passed for payment. The next meeting is Dec. 18 at 2:30 p.m.
Town of Rivers, Dec. 2: Discussion was held on letters received regarding garbage containers being placed on front boulevards during winter months. A form letter is to be drafted, stating the town’s position on the collection service and the requirement by associate utilities to maintain a clear path from the street
to the dwelling. The Transition Committee met with Minister Drew Caldwell to discuss policing and the need for equitable funding for a new population; a meeting is to be set up with the new Riverdale Council, Minister Caldwell and Department of Justice in the new year. Options for heating the recycling shed were discussed. Public works will look into framing an eight- by eight-foot room with a small construction heater as opposed to trying to heat the entire building. Estimates for hauling larger loads of recycling to Brandon, and whether the city will accept them, will be obtained. Lily Kilmury was granted permission to move an existing home on to 371 Second Avenue. Holiday hours for the office were set at: Dec. 24, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.; Dec. 25 and 26, closed; Dec. 29-31, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; Jan. 1, closed; Jan. 2, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Aleisha Carew and Joyce Thompson mentioned drainage concerns in relation to lot development on Third Avenue; they were informed rezoning would have no more impact on drainage than a single family dwelling, but the developer will be informed of their issue prior to building; the zoning bylaw passed third reading.
