Anglicans enjoy food and fellowship

St. James’ Anglican Church’s annual pre-Christmas social was held Tuesday evening, Dec. 2 in Shelly Moms Kitchen. Present for the banquet supper and fellowship were clergy from St. Matthew’s Cathedral, namely Paul and Jean Curtis, Nigel and Barb Packwood and their daughter. Paul and Nigel are former ministers at St. James’ in Rivers.

Gordon Allen was host for the evening, welcoming everyone and later calling out winners of the silent auction. One of the highest bidders for donated articles was Evan Smith; his bid on a lemon meringue pie cost him more than $30. Jean Ryall and Lois Allen were auction workers while Norman Short poured the bubbly.

Restaurant owner Shelly Brown and her workers were thanked for the turkey and ham self-serve meal; for dessert plates of sweets were served at each table.

A spark to the evening was accordian music by Mary Ritchie and James Black. The toe-tapping music invigorated three local Anglicans to take to the dance floor. Those who attended ranged in age from babes in arms to grandparents.
