Ten Thousand Villages is a non-profit program of Mennonite Central Committee that creates opportunities for artisans in developing countries to earn income. It promotes international trade with greater equity for marginalized workers and producers. On Sunday, Nov. 16, representatives from Ten Thousand Villages will be visiting Rivers United Church.

A brief presentation will be given during the worship service at 11 a.m., followed by shopping in Friendship Hall at 12 p.m. Beautiful hand-crafted jewelry, aromatic coffee, unique Christmas ornaments and natural home decor are just a few of the items offered for sale. The sales of products from nearly 100 artisan groups in more than 30 countries help improve the lives of tens of thousands of people every day. An open invitation is extended to members of our congregation, worshippers of the Anglican, Baptist, Catholic and Pentecostal churches in Rivers, and to anyone who is interested in supporting fair trade. We look forward to seeing you!

In other church news, appreciation goes out to all who made our recent fall supper a success.

It was wonderful to see the pews filled with new and familiar faces in the Everyone in Church Sunday on Oct. 26.

Sunday school children will begin rehearsing for their Christmas presentation this Sunday, Nov. 9.

All church womena re invited to inspect and repair the Christmas decorations on Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. Bring an appetizer to share; beverages will be provided. Advent decorating will be held after worship on Nov. 23. This continues to be a traditional heartwarming event for young and old alike, and is sure to awaken your Christmas spirit. Following a potluck finger-food lunch, instructions for a simple Christmas craft will be given and then the sanctuary decorating begins! The season of Advent starts Nov. 30.
