Rivers is on the Paws Across Canada national tour route, thanks to Rivers Elementary School. Featuring spokes-pup Toby, a lovable Chesapeake Bay retriever, and Toby’s “side-kick,” international motivational speaker and best-selling author Charmaine Hammond, Team Toby is gearing up to inspire schools, communities and individuals with messages of kindness, workplace respect and community resilience. They will be presenting at Rivers Elementary School on Oct. 28 at 9 a.m.
This leg of the Paws Across Canada tour will engage 17 communities, cover more than 7,000 kilometres and will aim to reach 5,000 youth through school presentations and Skype visits. With the support of local businesses in Vancouver, B.C., Team Toby is able to raise money for Toby’s presentations and bully prevention classroom resources and books for local schools.
“We welcome the opportunity to put some of the businesses in Rivers on the map by participating in the Twoonie for Team Toby fundraising campaign,” says Hammond. “Together, we can make a difference.”
The tour also features a pet-friendly adventure. Each of Team Toby's favourite attractions and stops along the way will be awarded the Toby-tested, Toby-approved "award.” Toby the spokes-pup will capture all these adventures on his very own GoPro pup-cam, to be used in the official cross-country Paws Across Canada tour DOGumentary. An original Team Toby PAWSitive radio webcast airs live daily from stops along the way.

“We are excited to visit Rivers and to meet the staff and students at the school. October is bully prevention month and it is our goal to inspire acts of kindness to people, pets and the planet. We know that children are our future and the leaders of tomorrow; this tour provides an opportunity for students to make a difference in their community,” says Hammond.
