Long-time Neepawa business Herbs for Health is changing hands.  Local women Janet Husak and Karen Burton have purchased the health food store, which was opened by Elizabeth and Argyle Sneesby 25 years ago.

With Husask recently retired and Burton one year from retirement, the two women were looking for a new venture. The two have been customers of the store and are looking forward to helping customers.  “I have been going for at least 10 years.  Mrs. Sneesby helped me with a pile of different ailments and doing things the natural way,” said Burton.

For the time being, the women don’t plan on making any radical changes. “We plan to carry on Mrs. Sneesby’s tradition,” said Burton, noting that they will keep the same product lines and best sellers. They do however have some plans for expanded offerings, including germinators, so customers can grow their own healthy sprouts, as well as coffee, healthy snacks and some wearable health products. They are also open to requests and suggestions from customers. “We’d like to keep people shopping with us,” said Husak.

Another major change is that the women plan to be open extended hours, closing at 7 p.m. on Wednesdays and 8 p.m. on Thursday. They believe this will provide increase convenience to customers who might have previously had trouble making it to the store during business hours.

Burton and Husak took possession of the store, located on Mountain Ave., on Oct. 1 and plan to close for two weeks to complete some renovations.  When the store re-opens at noon on Oct. 14, it will be freshly painted, with new flooring.
