Rivers and District Chamber of Commerce held its annual fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 20. Although 45 exhibitors paid for booth space, only 44 showed up. Forty-four is the same number as last year and five years ago when the event was switched from a strict craft sale to a home-based businesses as well. Though exhibitor numbers remained average, attendance was down at least 50 people and the chamber’s profit has also dropped.

Riverdale District Health Auxiliary once again co-ordinated the ethnic food court with a nine-item menu, drinks and desserts. Their members, and many, many non-member community supporters, made perogies, cabbage rolls, quiche, curry, chili, stew, etc. The auxiliary also sold produce (donated by Deerboine Colony), baking and raffle tickets; several people spent money at these stations before even entering the rink surface to view exhibitor tables. Winning the cash raffle of $50, $40 and $25 were Jena Bray (Rivers), Cameron Russell (Winnipeg) and Layton Veitch (Rivers).

The chamber’s next event is Oct. 4 when it will work with Rivers Legion to host an Oktoberfest event. The chamber is fundraising to replace the faded signs at Jct. 10 and 25, Jct. 1 and 250 and Jct. 250 and 24. Cost of this project is approximately $10,000; approximately 10 per cent of this amount was raised at the sale.
