Close your eyes and imagine 60 children spending five mornings together in one building. I'm sure this created a variety of images in your mind, but for all of those involved in Rivers’ daily vacation Bible camp Weird Animals Week, it was an amazing five days. For the most part, these 60 children were divided into four groups that rotated through four stations where the daily Bible story and message were reinforced.
Imagination Station consisted of fun science activities; Untamed Games presented children with fun games and challenges; at KidVid Cinema children learned how other children in the world live; and at One-of-a-Kind Bible Adventures the daily Bible story came alive. Critter Cafe provided a fun snack which children looked forward to each day.
All children came together at the beginning and end of each morning where they rocked the church with songs they learned. They got to share their songs with family and friends at Thursday evening's family night. Iced tea and cookies were also enjoyed by everyone. The highlight of the week was Friday morning as residents at Riverdale Personal Care Home were treated to the children and their songs.
Rivers United Church started this camp close to 10 years ago. After a few years Rivers Baptist Church came on board. Today, all churches in Rivers are represented in some way. All food is donated and all people involved are volunteers. Expenses for the program and supplies for the stations
are shared between Rivers United Church and Rivers Baptist Church, allowing us to offer this wonderful week free of charge to families.
It is evident that we are fulfilling a need in the community as the camp usually fills to capacity each year. We have already ordered the kit for next year's Everest adventure. If you would like to be a part of this rewarding week next summer, please contact Debbie Phythian or Liesel Krahn. If you would like your child to participate in Sunday school during the year, please contact any of the churches to inquire about their program.
